Weekly Recap
With the league on winter break we take a look at off ice news from the past seven days.

Abbott Brothers

Big news for Rögle this week as both Cam and Chris Abbott have stepped down from their respective roles as General Manager and Head Coach. The twins came to Rögle in 2017 and greatly improved the team during their tenure. However last season saw them finish ninth in the regular season and right now they sit eleventh in the standings.

-  The recent period has been challenging sportingly and we have not had the success we wanted. Therefore, we feel that we need to make a change, says Rögle's club director Daniel Koch

Hampus Sjöström will be taking over the General Manager position in an interim role and Roger Hansson, Max Bohlin and Peter Hirsch will continue behind the bench for the time being.

Under the Abbott Brothers leadership, the team reached its first ever SHL Finals in 2021 and they won their first ever CHL title in 2022. It is unclear where the Abbott brothers will end up next.

Karlsson

Rögle wasn't the only team to announce a change behind the bench this week as Timrå has also decided to part ways with their head coach at the end of the season. They announced this week that they will not be renewing Anders Karlssons contract at the end of the season.

- Ante has received the message and we can now communicate it to avoid further speculation. Ante has done a great job during his years at the club as our focus has been on establishing the association in the SHL. Together with Ante, we can now fully focus on finishing the season in the best way, says Timrå's sporting director Kimmo Kapanen

Karlsson started his coaching career with the Timrå junior teams before being promoted to assistant coach for the big team in 2012. He then was the head coach of Södertälje and assistant coach for Färjestad before returning to Timrå in 2019. He took over the head coaching position in 2022.

Mylläri

A familiar face is returning to the SHL as Oskarshamn announced this week that they have signed defender Anton Mylläri. The 32 year old has spent the past season and a half playing in Finland with the Pelicans but has now decided to return to Sweden.

- I think my way of playing suits IK and always try to convey a calmness out on the ice. I have had Filander as a coach in both Västerås and Malmö and know what kind of coach he is. I would describe him as committed, straightforward and clear, says Mylläri.

Not only is this a reunion with his old coach but it is also a return to Oskarshamn for Mylläri who played with them in Hockey Allsvenskan during the 2010/11 season. He most recently played in the SHL with Brynäs but has also had stints with Malmö, Linköping and Djurgården.

Linköping

Linköping will be losing two of their young superstars to the upcoming World Juniors tournament in Gothenburg. Both Filip Bystedt and Fabian Wagner have been named to team Sweden for the highly anticipated tournament on home soil and so they have brought in some extra help while the two of them are away. Georg Weigelt has been brought up from Kristianstads in Hockey Ettan.

- We are very grateful that we were able to arrive at this solution with Kristianstad and extra fun to give "Jojje" the chance that we know well after the years in LHC, says the men's team's sporting director Peter Jakobsson.

Weigelt is a product of the Linköping Junior program and has had 68 games played with the big team.
